On Tuesday, Gauteng police arrested four men suspected to be behind several ATM bombings in the province.
Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed the arrest.
Masondo said four suspects, aged between 25 and 32, were arrested in Ekurhuleni District on Tuesday, 25 June, for their involvement in ATM bombing, illegal mining, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
“The successful crime operation also resulted in the seizure of a shotgun with five live rounds, drugs, and stolen property,” he said.
In a separate incident, Masondo said police in Soweto followed information about the ATM bombing suspects in the area.
“Received information led the police to a house where stained cash was found. The search for the suspects is underway,” he said.
“The investigation is ongoing, and the police are working to identify and apprehend all those involved.”
The suspects will appear before the Magistrate court soon.
