Unheralded Moritz Kossmann has become the latest South African coach to get a coaching role from an overseas club.

The 31-year-old left his post as Cape Town City reserve team coach and will be joining Austrian second-tier side SV Ried as chief analyst.

“It was a great year at Cape Town City,” said Kossmann.

“Wishing everyone at the club all the very best for the future.”

He spent last season in charge of Cape Town City’s DStv Diski Challenge side, having arrived at the Citizens from Ubuntu Cape Town FC.

Previously, he coached Young Bafana Soccer Academy and now joins a growing list of South Africans taking up coaching opportunities overseas.

Manchester United forwards coach Benni McCarthy headlines coaches from South Africa working in Europe, a terrain Steven Pienaar, Quinton Fortune and Fadlu Davids have all explored.

In Major League Soccer, Bradley Carnell is at St Louis City SC, while Pitso Mosimane has been in the Middle East in the past two seasons after also working in Egypt.

Mosimane has been travelling with his backroom staff of South Africans, including Maahier Davids.

Now, Kossmann is now making inroads and leaves City after coaching future prospects like Luphumlo Sifumba and Emile Witbooi, son to former Mamelodi Sundowns star Bradley Ralani.

City paid tribute to Kossmann who also holds German citizenship.

“The club sends best wishes to coach Moritz Kossmann, who joins the first team coaching staff at Austrian side SV Ried,” City said in a brief statement.

“Another coach coming out of South Africa onto the European stage.”

Kossmann might return with a high profile, bidding for a top Premier Soccer League job.
