TS Galaxy have been slapped with a transfer ban by Fifa over an unpaid R1.8-million to a former player.

The DStv Premiership side will not be allowed to sign any new players until the outstanding amount has been settled.

According to FarPost, the ban stems from the club’s contractual dispute with Ivorian striker Bernard Yao Kouassi; and it was confirmed by a letter from Fifa.

Yao Kouassi signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with TS Galaxy in January 2023 but was gone by August without playing even a single game for the club. He now plies his trade in Nigeria at Rivers United.

The Rockets now find themselves in a predicament heading into the new season, with squad development hindered by the three-window transfer ban in place.

“A ban from registering new players internationally has been implemented by Fifa as of today,” the statement says per FarPost.

“Moreover, and in accordance with the aforementioned decision, the respondent‘s member association is requested to immediately implement on the respondent, the Club TS Galaxy FC, a ban from registering new players at national level.”

Galaxy will also have to pay over R80,000 in legal fees.
