South African rapper Cassper Nyovest wrote on social media that he pays around R18,000 a month for electricity.
On Wednesday, he asked on social media if the price of electricity has increased.
“Guys, does the price of electricity change? Last week I bought R3,000 worth of electricity, and it was 900 units. Today, R3,000 only gave me 750 units,” he wrote on X.
Cassper added that he was spending R18,000 a month before he switched to pre-paid electricity.
Since the move to pre-paid electricity, Cassper has also installed solar panels to his home but still ends up paying R12,000 to Eskom every month.
“This is scary. What’s going to happen in 5 years?” he asked.
Social media users wrote in the comments that they suffered the same as the rapper.
South African DJ, Coach, said the people are being ripped off.
“I bought R6,000 electricity exactly 6 days ago, I got 690 units on the first transaction, and I got 679 units on the second one, yet still I bought it within 5 minutes of each other. As we speak I’m left with less than 120 units meaning I’ve got to buy again today,” he said.
Another user said: “I can’t even use the heater in my apartment. Grateful it’s on the sunny side of the building.”
