The EFF has rejected the ANC proposal for parties to join it and form a Government of National Unity.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Thursday night that a meeting of the ANC chose to form the GNU to unite the nation under the common purpose of fast tracking economic growth, creating jobs and fighting crime and corruption.
EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu said the post 1994 GNU led by former president Nelson Mandela was not successful in improving the lives of the black majority.
“We are opposed to the governance of national unity… we do not want to form part of a government with representatives of white colonial interest.”
He said the DA and other small white parties continue to represent a white, colonial and apartheid agenda.
“We are not going to form part of any government with the DA, we are not going to sit alongside the DA and FF Plus in government as the EFF.
“We are not going to sit alongside the land thieves, we are not going to sit alongside the people who got to benefit unlawfully for a very long time from colonialism and apartheid
“We are not going to sit alongside them and constitute a government of SA,” said Shivambu.
Shivambu said the EFF has met a delegation of the ANC and is scheduled to have another meeting to discuss the proposed GNU.
“We are scheduled to meet again with the national negotiating team of the ANC. We had a preliminary meeting to state our positions and then they had their own national executive committee meeting.”
The EFF convened its meeting of the top leadership to discuss the outcome of the elections and the party’s participation in a coalition government.
The Fighters said they will go into the GNU if it prioritises the involvement of the economy, land ownership, free education, protection of workers rights and the enforcement of the minimum wage.
