Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader Gayton McKenzie has one demand from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s future government: Give us Home Affairs.

McKenzie campaigned throughout the country on a simple message: to get rid of illegal foreigners in South Africa.

Illegal foreign nationals have been blamed for excessive crime in the townships, illegal mining, mass shootings and drug peddling.

In the farming and construction sectors, they have been accused of colluding with unscrupulous employers to take jobs previously done by unskilled and semi-skilled South Africans.

The PA has won 2.06% of the vote, enough to get the ANC and the EFF over the 50% plus one threshold.

McKenzie said the PA has not struck an agreement with the ANC because the ANC itself has not yet decided on what coalition governance model it wants.

“I told them you are putting the cart before the horse. From the PA side we have different demands for different governments.

“The meeting was jovial. The path to power for the ANC is not as dire as people think. They really have options.”

McKenzie said in his meeting with Jacob Zuma, the former president said he would not work with “the ANC of Ramaphosa”.

“With us, I just think that nobody has a right to tell another party who the president should be.

“We hope to get the minister of home affairs because we have campaigned on that ticket.

“And for me if we do not get that I will not be going to Parliament.”

McKenzie said the fight to get rid of illegal foreigners in South Africa has become more difficult because of NGOs that have hired lawyers to block attempts to deport illegal foreigners.

The ANC delegation and the PA are expected to meet again before the end of the week.
