The 2023/24 PSL season ended with Mamelodi Sundowns winning their seventh consecutive title. Herewith our pick of the crop in a 3-5-2 formation:

Goalkeeper – Ronwen Williams

The Bafana Bafana captain kept an impressive 15 clean sheets in 22 league games while conceding nine goals. He also went 11 successive matches without being breached.

Right-back – Khuliso Mudau

The Masandawana right-back was at his usual best, and it is difficult to think of anybody who came close.

Left-back – Aubrey Modiba

A versatile player at home as a left-back and attacking midfielder, Modiba showed great character when he lost his place in the team to Divine Lunga but quickly reclaimed it.

Centre-back – Grant Kekana

Kekana was rock solid at the back in his 17 PSL appearances. While he was playing, Sundowns conceded just four goals.

Centre back – Tapelo Xoki

It was a season in which he convinced Bafana coach Hugo Broos that he deserved a national team call-up.

Centre- back – Deano van Rooyen

The Stellenbosch captain had a sterling partnership with Ismael Toure at the heart of defence, but he was the better defender as he quietly went about his business.

Central midfielder – Teboho Mokoena

Little needs to be explained about Mokoena, who is undoubtedly the best in this position by miles.

Right midfielder – Relebohile Mofokeng

Blessed with skill, the Pirates wonderkid spent most of the time on the left wing and was a sensation to watch as he chipped in three league goals plus five assists, earning himself a Bafana call-up.

Left midfielder – Patrick Maswanganyi

Another player who muscled his way into the national team, in a season in which he racked up seven Man of the Match awards in the league.

Striker – Tshegofatso Mabasa

He won the Golden Boot with 16 goals in 26 games, shared between Pirates, where he scored 10 goals, and a loan stint at Moroka Swallows, where he struck six times.

Striker – Iqraam Rayners

The Stellenbosch striker came second in the Golden Boot race with 15 goals in 28 matches, including sensationally scoring five against Polokwane City.
