Mamelodi Sundowns suffered their first Premier Soccer League defeat of the season after losing 1-0 to Cape Town City at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.
Jaedin Rhodes struck in the 61st minute to separate the two sides and spoil Masandawana’s crowning moment.
It was coach Rhulani Mokwena’s first defeat while in charge of Sundowns since October 2022.
The Brazilians had come so close to completing the season unbeaten but City came to Tshwane to spoil the party.
With a dampened spirit, Sundowns were handed their seventh straight PSL title on a day they had hoped to be flawless.
Meanwhile, at Cape Town Stadium, Kaizer Chiefs were beaten 2-0 by relegated Cape Town Spurs.
Ashley Cupido struck on 37 minutes while Michael Morton’s 74th-minute goal sealed victory for Spurs who bow out of the top-flight league with some honour.
It concluded a difficult season for Amakhosi who slid from position eight to 10th on the log.
The Soweto giants will now have more to reflect on as they search for a new coach to take them into the 2024/25 season.
Polokwane City managed to occupy the eighth spot after beating TS Galaxy at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
It was a low ending for the Rockets who had the chance to sneak into the top-eight while Golden Arrows finished ninth following a 3-1 victory over AmaZulu in a KwaZulu-Natal derby.
