Manchester City have written themselves into the record books after claiming a fourth consecutive English Premier League title.
The Citizens picked up a convincing 3-1 win at home to West Ham United with PFA player of the year Phil Foden netting twice to keep the title out of Arsenal’s reach for yet another season.
The Gunners picked up a 2-1 win over Everton, but it would not be enough to get them over the line as Pep Guardiola’s men finished the campaign on 91 points, two clear of Mikel Arteta’s troops.
Guardiola lifted his sixth Premier League title, becoming just the fourth manager ever to win so many. Only Sir Alex Ferguson, George Ramsay and Bob Paisley reached six titles in the English top-flight before the City boss.
No English team has ever won the title in four consecutive seasons; and City have also gone 35 matches unbeaten in all competitions, the longest run ever by a Premier League side in the 21st century.
The final day of the campaign also brought wins for Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester United.
The Reds sealed third place while Aston Villa’s 5-0 drubbing at Crystal Palace had no effect on their fourth place finish.
Spurs held on to fifth spot while the Blues and Magpies completed the top seven. Manchester United will need to win the FA Cup if they want to play in Europe next season.
As far as relegation and promotion goes; Sheffield United, Burnley and Luton Town will be demoted to the Championship. It is just the second time in Premier League history that all three promoted sides have gone straight back down.
Leicester City and Ipswich Town will make their way up next season, while one of either Leeds United, Southampton, West Brom or Norwich City will make their way up following the playoffs this month.
The season still has an FA Cup final and European finals to play before the Uefa European Championships take centre stage in Germany next month.
