Masizole Mnqasela, the former DA speaker in the Western Cape legislature, is calling for the death penalty to be reinstated for rapists and drug dealers, and life sentences for corrupt government officials.
Now the president of the Alliance of Citizens for Change (ACC), Mnqasela believes through social justice and courageous leadership, order will be restored in the country.
Mnqasela was a member of the DA for 20 years and served as speaker of the Western Cape legislature before he was kicked out of the party in November 2022 amid allegations of fraud.
In an interview with Scrolla.Africa, Mnqasela said the party had to find ways to remove him as he kept pushing for social justice and questioning proposed policies.
“Over the years I learned that the party doesn’t care about the interests of black people or improving their lives.
“Even through challenges I encountered in the party over the years I believe I made meaningful contributions towards the improvement of the communities in the Western Cape,” he said.
The party president said he regrets taking the party to the South African townships: “We can never be equal to them. They don’t think we are worthy to be on the same standard as them.”
Mnqasela said once his party is in government, they will push for the death penalty to be reinstated while also making way for those found guilty to appeal the sentence.
“To this day I don’t understand how it was removed in the first place when we are living in such a war-torn country. Every 20 minutes a person is killed and between 26-30 minutes a woman is raped.
“We need strict punishments for these crimes. We want our people not to be scared in their homes, in the streets, in church – criminals are robbing churches,” he said.
The party plans to expropriate land with reasonable compensation, and promises free education for all and to sentence corrupt government officials for stealing from the poor.
