Two teenage Premier League stars were arrested after a complaint was filed with police over an alleged rape on Friday.
According to The Sun, police raided a top-flight English club at the weekend and detained two unnamed players.
The footballers play for the same team and are both 19 years old.
One player was spoken to by authorities on suspicion of assault as well as aiding and abetting rape. The conversation was had at the stadium before a formal arrest took place.
The second player was arrested a day later on suspicion of rape. Both players were detained overnight but have now been released on bail.
While the club in question has not been named, Wolverhampton Wanderers have become the first team to comment publicly, stating that the players are not theirs.
“A newspaper article published yesterday has triggered inappropriate online speculation over the identities of two individuals reportedly under investigation,” the statement read.
“Whilst we would not typically comment on ongoing police matters, to protect the welfare of our young players, we feel it is necessary to confirm that the allegations do not relate to anyone at Wolves.”
Both players have reportedly been suspended by their club while the investigations take place.
