Limpopo police are searching for the gang who shot and killed four people and wounded seven others at the Moletlane Crossroads taxi rank on Wednesday afternoon.
Witnesses said the suspects, driving in a white BMW and a black Mercedes-Benz, fired multiple shots at the parked taxis and fled the scene after the attack.
Limpopo SAPS spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said two taxi drivers, one passenger and a motorist were certified dead at the scene and four others were taken to hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds.
“It later transpired that three more victims also sustained injuries, bringing to seven the total number of the injured,” said Ledwaba.
Five taxis and a bakkie were damaged in the shooting and several spent assault rifle and pistol cartridges were found at the scene.
The Limpopo SAPS taxi violence unit is investigating four counts of murder and seven counts of attempted murder.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident and stressed that the investigation team must leave no stone unturned in hunting down and apprehending those responsible for “this senseless act of violence”.
“Anyone with information about the incident is urged to come forward and assist the police in their investigation. All information provided will be treated with the utmost confidentiality,” he said.
