Five people were stoned to death in Tembisa’s Kanana ext 4 on Monday morning in an act of mob justice.

The men were accused of several crimes.

Residents on Monday morning went door to door, hunting the suspected criminals down.

The Scrolla.Africa team arrived at the scene where a huge crowd of residents gathered around the cordoned-off police tape.

Four of the five bodies were identified by their family members.

Authorities found no stolen goods or weapons on the accused criminals.

“Four bodies were identified by family members on the scene. The family members do not have information about the incident. The community members involved are not yet known,” said one of the officials attending the scene.

He added that police received a call from the client service centre to attend to a complaint of five murders at Kanana ext 4 next to the sports ground.

The mother of one of the victims, Mpho Baloyi, spoke to Scrolla.Africa and said her son doesn’t commit crimes.

“He is always busy with his small business of cooking,” she said.

She said she was awakened by a neighbour who asked her to see if her son was in the house.

“When I heard the knocking at the door, I thought it was my son coming to tell me he was going to get stock as he said he was going to do,” the mother said.

After the knock from a neighbour, the mother went to the scene of the incident where she saw her lifeless son.

“But my heart sank when I saw him lying on the ground covered with a blue blanket. His head seems to have been hit with a big stone.”

Mapule Sifolo, mother of Percy Sifolo, said her neighbour told her that her son was one of the five who were dead.

Pat Manyala said her son Justice Mayala was brutally murdered.

“I received a call from my son’s landlord telling me that a crowd was about to destroy her shack because of the accusations against him.

“And soon I got a phone call telling me that he was dead. I am confused. I have never had issues or complaints that my son is committing any crime in the area,” said Pat.

Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said: “Five men were found dead. The suspicion is that they were stoned to death by community members. No one has been arrested. A case of murder with five counts is opened for further investigations.”
