The mystery of two-time winner Naomi Osaka’s absence from the Australian Open tennis draw has been solved: she is going to be a mom!

The 25-year-old superstar took to Twitter to share the good news with all her fans: “Can’t wait to get back on the court, but here’s a little life update for 2023,” she said in the caption of a picture of a sonogram dated 12 December 2022.

“These few months away from the sport have really given me a new love and appreciation for the game I’ve dedicated my life to. I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future; one thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch some of my matches and tell someone: ‘That’s my mom,” she said in an attached statement.

“I don’t think there’s a perfectly correct path to take in life but I always felt that if you move forward with good intentions you’ll find your way eventually,” she added.

Osaka won the Australian Open in 2019 and 2021 and now follows the likes of Ashleigh Barty and Caroline Wozniacki in taking a break from the big time to attend to a teeny weeny miracle.
