Quick fire two-day defeat for Proteas

LANGUAGE:

Australia wrapped up the first test against South Africa in double quick time, winning by six wickets after dismissing the Proteas for 99 in their second innings.

Travis Head picked up from where he left off with the bat, helping the hosts to a lead of 66 and making 92 himself, before being dismissed by Marco Jansen.

South Africa had a tough time with the bat second time around, scoring less than their first innings score of 152.

Dean Elgar, Rassie Van Der Dussen and Sarel Erwee had a tough time up top, as Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc reduced the Proteas to 5/3 early on.

Temba Bavuma got to 29 and Khaya Zondo top scored with an unbeaten 36, but wickets fell at regular intervals with captain Cummins getting a five wicket haul.

Despite Kagiso Rabada coming out firing with the ball, the target was far too low for any sort of fight back. With just 35 to get, Rabada got four wickets in just four overs including Head for a golden duck.

He fought a losing battle though, as the Australian batters chipped away to get a series lead in Brisbane.
