One of Mzansi’s best drama series, Ayeye, which first premiered on DStv’s Vuzu Amp channel in 2014, is coming back.
The first season of the award-winning series had 14 episodes.
“After numerous false alarms over the last five years, Ayeye is finally returning with a brand new season,” tweeted entertainment news commentator Phil Mphela on Thursday.
The first season followed the lives of three friends who shared a loft in busy Johannesburg as they tried to climb the corporate ladder in the advertising industry.
Thapelo Mokoena, who played JK, hinted on Wednesday that he is working on season two of a show he once did.
He posted a picture of himself on Instagram holding out a peace sign in a photography studio, with the caption, “Coming Soon Season (2)”.
Even though fans accepted the news with excitement, it is still unclear if all the season one leading cast members will also be featured in season two. Season one standouts include Sthembiso “SK” Khoza, who played Neo, and Mpho “Mpho Popps” Modikoane, who played Lebo.
The Bomb Productions series was produced by award-winning director and producer Kutlwano Ditsele who left the company in 2017 after helping produce big telenovelas like the famous Isibaya in 2013.
After leaving Bomb Productions, Ditsele started his company Seriti Films with three partners. It has produced notable telenovelas for MultiChoice like The Herd and the still-running Gomora in 2020.
Meanwhile Mpho Popps, who is also an established stand-up comedian with specials on Netflix, was nominated for the DStv Viewer’s Choice Favourite Comedian Award in April.
“I’m honoured to be nominated amongst the best of the best. A big thank you to @dstvza and all the best to my comrades in comedy @skhumba_official @celestentuli @thatninahastie and @mashabelacomedy,” said Mpho Popps on Instagram tagging fellow nominees in the category.
The voting for DStv Viewer’s Choice nominees will close on Saturday 11 June at 10pm and the awards ceremony will be broadcast live on Mzansi Magic from the Sun Arena in Pretoria.
