The chart-topping Nomfundo “Moh” Ngcobo got more than she was expecting when she attended her graduation ceremony at the University of KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

Along with her bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Nomfundo was awarded a double Platinum plaque for her trending hit Phakade Lami.

The songstress turned the graduation ceremony into a concert when her name was called to go on stage to receive her degree certificate.

The moment was made all the more special, when her latest hit Soft Life was played while she was marching to the stage and members of the audience sang along and cheered her on.

Nomfundo is a rural girl from Ndwedwe north of Durban.

She said it was difficult to study while she was busy with her music career but that dedication helped her to finally complete her degree.

Her management team had arranged the special surprise of awarding her the double platinum plaque for Phakade Lami which has had more than 9.5 million views on YouTube and over 3 million streams on Spotify. Nomfundo is also Apple Music’s Africa Rising emerging artist.

“I am truly humbled by the love shown to me by my team and fans,” said Nomfundo.

“Completing my degree proves that I can achieve whatever I put my mind to. To my MohFam, thank you for buying the music. Thank you for the love you keep showing me and the art,” she said.
