Netflix is set to premiere a five-part documentary series about the death of Senzo Meyiwa that shocked the world almost eight years ago.
The true crime documentary, called: Murder of a Soccer Star and set to premiere on 7 April, will look at how Meyiwa was killed in Vorsloorus, Gauteng on 26 October, 2014.
There are still many unanswered questions about the murder of the former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and perhaps this documentary could provide some of the answers that fans all over the world are looking for.
Meyiwa was shot and killed at the home of his girlfriend and celebrity Kelly Khumalo’s mother. All these years later it is still unclear what really happened on that night despite no fewer than six witnesses, including Kelly herself, being in the house.
The big question is, who killed Meyiwa and why?
Even Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli, who is on trial for the murder, is not providing the answers the public is seeking. Ntuli is serving six life sentences in prison for other unrelated murder cases.
Meyiwa’s family, however, is still not convinced that the suspect is the real killer. They believe the killer has still not been found.
Nonetheless, the documentary could provide closure to Meyiwa’s family, who will be taking part in it. They will provide an intimate look at both the life and death of the Bafana Bafana captain.
It also features exclusive interviews with sports broadcaster Robert Marawa, former Hawks head Shadrack Sibiya and Advocate Gerrie Nel.
“Murder of a Soccer Star is a thrilling five-part true crime documentary series that delves into the most-loved soccer star’s murder,” says the press statement.
“The series will share insights into what transpired on that fateful night when Meyiwa was gunned down in what was alleged to be a botched robbery in 2014.”
The documentary is directed by Sara Blecher and produced by Thando Davids, Niel Brandt and Tendeka Matatu.
