Controversial TV personality turned politician Kuli Nomakula Roberts has died.

The news was confirmed by her family on Thursday. It is believed she died a few minutes before a radio interview.

Kuli was last seen 18 hours ago on her Twitter account when she was attacking those who were labelling black judges as house negroes.

She made the news last year when the African Transformation Movement (ATM) announced her as a ward 65 candidate for the 1 November local government elections.

Later the ATM issued a statement and said that due to unforeseen and confidential circumstances, it is no longer possible to have Kuli as a member and ward councillor.

Mzwanele Manyi of the ATM told Scrolla.Africa that they had not received any confirmation on Kuli’s passing.

“I really don’t know anything. Our communication with her was on a political level. So it might be difficult for me to get such details from her family,” said Manyi.

On Thursday morning Kuli’s fans jumped to her Twitter page asking if the news of her passing were true.

Others even tweeted that she must quickly respond to the news because they don’t believe the reports.

Unconfirmed reports have listed her cause of death as a heart attack, however, her family has not yet issued a statement regarding her passing or the cause of death.

Kuli once caused a stir in one of her Sunday World columns where she labelled coloured men as the weakest when it came to sex.

She was suspended for that column as it was viewed as offensive.

She was a journalist, talk show host, actor and comedian.

Kuli has been on the Real Gobhoza Show on SABC 1 and Trending SA show which was aired on SABC3.

Actor Hlubi Mboya, Kuli’s sister, has said nothing about her passing.
