Four-time award winner Drake has withdrawn his two Grammy nominations for this year’s awards show.
The decision was made by the hip-hop superstar after he was bombarded with multiple lawsuits following the tragic events that took the lives of ten fans at the Travis Scott annual concert in Texas last month.
Drake, who was nominated for Best Rap Album for his last album Certified Lover Boy and for Best Rap Performance for the single “Way 2 Sexy”, asked the Recording Academy to cancel his nomination, according to AFP sources.
The Recording Academy, which will host the 64th Grammy Awards on 31 January next year, reportedly honoured the Canadian rapper’s wishes and granted the withdrawal.
Meanwhile, hundreds of lawsuits have been filed against both Travis Scott and Drake for their role in organising the ill-fated festival. The two rappers allegedly failed to take safety precautions to protect their fans.
The two will reportedly face 1,250 plaintiffs, from nearly 300 combined lawsuits from different lawyers representing the victims or claimants, according to US local news.
