Dimwit Texas Governor makes an ass of himself

Governor Greg Abbott got into office on an anti-immigration ticket and in the state of Texas that is simply an instruction to make sure that illegal Mexicans don’t get into the country.

And perhaps he believes that an illegal – whether a Mexican or a South African – is just about the same thing and should be kept out of the Lone Star State.

Does he realise that the Uber fee from Austin, Texas to Pretoria, South Africa will be more than even he could afford?

He nonetheless claimed that the travel ban imposed by United States president Joe Biden would not prevent South Africans from illegally entering their country.

“Biden banned travel from SA because of the new Covid variant. Immigrants have recently been apprehended crossing our border illegally from SA. Biden is doing nothing to stop immigrants from SA entering illegally. Pure politics and hypocrisy,” he wrote.

South African president Cyril Ramaphosa, during his address to the nation on Sunday evening,  said the travel bans are not based on science.

“These restrictions are unjustified and unfairly discriminate against our country and our Southern African sister countries. The prohibition of travel is not informed by science, nor will it be effective in preventing the spread of this variant,” the president said.

Social media was up in arms following the governor’s claims about South Africa.

Some were suggesting Abbott is fuelling conspiracy theories while others indicated the governor may need a few geography lessons.

RotatingWinterStatue tweeted: “Anyone who has the stamina and strength to swim across the Atlantic is a huge asset to our society. They should immediately be offered jobs in the military or the NFL.” But HereComeTheFive disagreed. “With those aquatic skills they should be better suited to the Coast Guard,” he said.

Governor Abbot, until now, has refused to take down his post.
