DJ Tira, once a famous endorser of the ANC, has turned his back on the ruling party.
He’s now been hired by the IFP to perform at their election campaign events.
The record producer, whose real name is Mthokozisi Khathi, made headlines in 2016 after turning down a sum of R60,000 to perform with the Big Nuz at an IFP campaign event.
Following the event, Tira made clear his allegiance to the ANC and said he was opposed to performing on behalf of other political parties.
Five years later, the DJ has hit the campaign trail with the IFP.
He has rubbished claims that he has become a member of the IFP. He says it’s just a business decision.
“I am a professional businessman which means that I can perform for any political party because at the end of the day I need money,” Tira told Scrolla.Africa.
Tira, who is the founder of the Afrotainment record label, rose to fame after producing music for artists such as Qwabe Twins, Big Nuz, Tipcee, Ntencane, Destruction Boys and Dladla Mshunqisi.
The DJ’s fanbase is divided over his change of heart. While some have supported his right to make a living, others have criticised him for letting money get in the way of his beliefs.
