A Mpumalanga MEC has been arrested and charged with two murders and one count of attempted murder.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said the 45-year-old MEC is alleged to have been involved in a shooting where two people were fatally shot and a third person wounded on 22 August in Nelspruit.
The MEC who hasn’t been named handed himself over to police in Nelspruit on Monday morning.
This brings the total number of arrests in connection with the case to three.
On 17 September 2021 police arrested 35-year-old Joseph Charlie Ngwenya and 30-year-old Tshepo Matsane. They have both appeared in court at least twice before and were granted bail of R20,000 each on Friday, 8 October.
The MEC will appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court soon.
