A criminal investigation into Safa’s establishment of the Fun Valley Project is at an “advanced stage”, according to a Hawks spokesperson.
The development comes as suspended Safa national committee member Malesela Mooka has made accusations of theft against Safa president Danny Jordaan.
Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Philani Nkwalase confirmed the investigation is ongoing but no arrests have yet been made.
“We can’t divulge who the people of interest are while the investigation is taking place,” Nkwalase told Daily Maverick.
Reports suggest that in October 2020 an investigation was launched into the undertaking of the Fun Valley Project, a resort bought by Safa to be developed into a technical centre.
Mooka reported the matter to the Booysens police station, accusing Jordaan of theft, and it has since been taken up by the Hawks.
Mooka stated that the charges against Jordaan come from the employment of a communications company which was paid R182,000 in the hopes of recovering the Safa president’s reputation after rape charges were laid against him.
It is alleged that Jordaan orchestrated the inflation of the price of the resort from R30 million to R65 million.
Safa’s financial resources were also utilised to hire a security company to guard the organisation’s president which cost Safa R40,000.
Mooka told the Daily Maverick that his suspension at Safa by Jordaan was largely because he, along with former Safa chief executive officer, Dennis Mumble, were deemed whistleblowers.
“We went to the Booysens police station to report instances of theft at Safa, which we believed were instigated by the president, Dr Danny Jordaan.”
Safa’s legal representative Lesedi Mphahlele rubbished the claims.
“Mumble and Mokoena are disgruntled former employees. The same Mumble who alleges maladministration was an accounting officer at Safa as CEO and his signature is on the sale agreement of the Fun Valley agreement,” said Mphahlele.
