She went to church for spiritual guidance but came back with a heavy burden of debts.
Tshifhiwa Mungoni of Lwamondo outside Thohoyandou visited the Faith of Thalita Koum Ministry in Sibasa last year where she met the controversial Prophet Innocent Muritho.
The 49-year-old educator said she went there seeking help as she had marital problems.
She hoped that her life would change for the better but now regrets having set foot in that church.
She is indebted and divorced.
“On that particular Sunday, I attended the main service together with the whole congregation and I also had a one-on-one session with the prophet where I was charged R700.
The prophet told me my problems were far more than I had thought and that I needed the prophet to come and cleanse my family,” Mungoni said.
For the prophet to visit her home, Mungoni said she was charged R15,000.
“The prophet came with another man and entered my house and told me there were three snakes that were causing all the problems in my family. He found the snakes from the house and said the problems would need special cleansing and that I should pay more,” she added.
Having been told that her children will die if she didn’t pay the money, Mungoni says she didn’t have a choice but to look for money as a matter of urgency.
“I made loans from my bank, from family and loan sharks that amounted to more than R300,000,” she said.
The mother of three said she was told there was a tokoloshe in the ceiling and a further R100,000 was needed but she could no longer afford that.
She is now broke and she can hardly make ends meet.
“I am a professional educator who earns a decent salary but now when month end comes it becomes a nightmare as I am left with nothing after all the deductions. I cannot even buy food and pay for school transport for my kids. I am suffering as a result of this man who put me in debt.”
Prophet Innocent Muritho said the woman was not telling the truth and was a pathetic liar.
“I did not go to her, she came to my church and I told her of the problems she was facing and what to do to solve them.
“I charged her what we agreed on and I never forced her to pay. She only paid for the services rendered to her,” he said.
Muritho is not new to controversy.
Two months ago he trended on social media when he posted a video of himself allegedly drunk and later publicly apologised.
