Nora Malebye is living a life of terror behind locked doors after allegedly being assaulted by ANC ward 75 councillor, Sello Mphanga.
Malebye was allegedly slapped, punched, kicked and thrown against the walls by the ward councillor during the ANC’s election of its councillor candidate which was held at Leboneng, Tshwane, two weeks ago.
Malebye said during the elections the ward councillor, who was also a candidate, kept trying to change the rules, which include providing an ID.
“He demanded that some of the members who were not registered or did not have their IDs vote,” Malebye said.
“As the party agent I asked him to comply so that the elections are fair and run smoothly.”
The angry councillor then told Malebye to leave the voting station and said that he would not be told what to do in his own ward.
When she said he should address her with respect, he allegedly flew into a rage and started insulting her. He then allegedly slapped, kicked and punched her whilst threatening to kill her and her entire family.
Malebye said while she was lying on the floor he continued kicking her until a group of men managed to pull him away.
Her leg was broken and several of her ribs were fractured and she was rushed to hospital where she spent two weeks before being discharged on Monday.
“I am forced to lock the gate and my house for my safety. I fear if he finds out that I am out of hospital he might come to finish what he had started,” she added.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Herman Moremi confirmed that police are investigating a case of intent to cause grievous bodily harm. “The suspect is out on bail and will be appearing before the Temba Magistrate’s Court on 8 September,” he said.
