Community members of eziMbokodweni, south of Durban want to banish a 73-year-old granny for abusing her three grandchildren.
This comes after a two-year-old boy was found tied up with a rope to a wooden pallet at his home while the gogo went shopping on Sunday.
Neighbours said this was not the first incident and they were planning to banish her from the village.
Ward 93 councillor Thabisile Zulu told Scrolla.Africa the situation is tense.
“I am told the boy’s two siblings also suffer the same treatment. She does not even want them to use electricity to cook or use lights to do their schoolwork,” said Zulu.
The granddaughter who is doing grade 12 has asked for help from the neighbours for her and her younger brother to continue school.
Zulu revealed that the two-year-old boy has been taken to a place of safety by the children’s rights organisation, Bobby Bear.
“The other two siblings who are studying will also be taken to a place of safety,” said Zulu.
The granny, who cannot be named to protect her grandchildren, was arrested by kwaMakhutha police.
She is the only surviving guardian of the children after her daughter, the mother of the children, passed away.
