• Hawks officer Deenadayalan Govender must give evidence in an open Madlanga Commission hearing on Monday, 31 August.
Suspended Deputy Head of Crime Intelligence Feroz Khan is reportedly back in hospital as he faces serious claims before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
Khan was previously admitted to Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg in critical condition after a reported assassination attempt in June.
He was later discharged and moved to an undisclosed location.
Evidence presented before the commission includes serious claims against Khan. These include corruption, tender fraud, leaking state secrets and interfering in major criminal investigations.
Khan was subpoenaed to appear before the commission in Pretoria on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, KwaZulu-Natal Hawks officer Deenadayalan Govender must give evidence in an open hearing on Monday, 31 August.
Govender first appeared before the commission on 21 August. He applied for parts of his evidence to be heard behind closed doors.
In a ruling issued on Sunday, the commission allowed his late application to be considered.
However, it refused his request for evidence relating to his responses to paragraphs 2.4 and 2.5 of the commission’s Regulation 10(6) Notice to be heard behind closed doors.
“The applicant must therefore give evidence on those matters in an open hearing at 9.30am on Monday. The ruling includes several qualifications,” the ruling states.
Govender will not have to reveal the identities of witnesses linked to an ongoing investigation into the suspected theft of cocaine from the Port Shepstone offices of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation.
He will also not have to reveal specific police strategies, investigation methods or intelligence gathering methods used during investigations.
Some evidence will still be heard behind closed doors.
This includes evidence linked to testimony previously given by Witness P about a counterintelligence operation involving organised drug gangs in the Durban area.
That evidence will be heard behind closed doors on 31 August or on another date set by the commission.
