  • Tsakane Matlala says Tebogo Thobejane followed her to court and called her a “killer” in social media posts.
  • Thobejane told eNCA her posts came from pain and hurt, not from any plan to scare or threaten anyone.

Tsakane Matlala, the wife of jailed businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, has opened a criminal case against actress and media personality Tebogo Thobejane.

She accuses Thobejane of online bullying, defamation, intimidation and harassment.

Tsakane says Thobejane showed up and watched her at several court appearances, making her feel unsafe and distressed.

Her husband is currently locked up at eBongweni Correctional Facility, also known as Kokstad C-Max. He faces more than 20 charges, including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and money laundering.

The case also covers things Thobejane posted on social media. She allegedly called Tsakane a “killer” and described Matlala as an “nkabi”, a slang word often used to mean a hitman. Thobejane also claimed that Tsakane looked happy after an attack that nearly killed her.

All of these posts are part of the harassment complaint.

Thobejane has spoken openly about how the attack affected her. She says she now lives with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

When asked by eNCA about the posts, she said she wrote them out of pain and frustration, not to scare anyone.

“I am focused on healing,” she said. She said her posts show the trauma she is still going through.

Tsakane’s lawyers say the posts have damaged her name and made her fear for her safety.

Court proceedings linked to the matter are expected to resume this week.
