Shepherd Bushiri has reportedly returned to South Africa on several occasions after he and his wife fled to Malawi last year.

The Bushiri family made an infamous escape from South Africa late last year following charges of fraud, theft and money laundering to the value of over R100 million.

Security agencies in South Africa are now investigating claims that pastor Bushiri has returned to the country on more than one occasion since fleeing the nation.

Several security barriers have been set up to capture the controversial couple, as reported by City Press.

Reports suggest that the couple most recently visited the country in April, just two months ago.

Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has suggested Bushiri may have been smuggled into the nation.

“We have tagged all the passports and whenever he would enter any port, it would be flagged by the system. Whether he uses an airport or seaport, as soon as the passport is scanned, it would send out an alert of a wanted person,” he said.

The Hawks, as well as the State Security Agency (SSA), are both investigating the situation – and both agencies have apparently been made aware of the reports suggesting the couple have returned to the nation on multiple occasions.

However, Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya refused to comment on the situation, saying, “We are not going to talk about the activities that have happened or have not happened.”
