  • A witness told the Madlanga Commission that a bribe and a party at 12 on Hillel were linked to a Vereeniging murder case.
  • The hotel says no event happened and Lerato Kganyago has no role in running or owning the business.

Boutique hotel 12 on Hillel Villa & Spa has rejected claims made at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry into corruption in the justice system.

A witness known as Witness A told the inquiry that he received a call from a man named Vusi Ndlala a day before former police officer Michael Pule Tau was granted bail.

Tau is one of the people accused of murdering Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart.

The witness claimed his boss hinted at a bribe to stop the case and that he was later invited to a party at a boutique hotel in Northcliff, allegedly owned by media personality Lerato Kganyago.

In a statement, 12 on Hillel Villa & Spa said the claims were false. The hotel said the man mentioned was a guest named Vusi Makhubela, not Vusi Ndlala.

The hotel also said no party or event took place there on the day mentioned.

It added that Lerato Kganyago is not involved in running or owning the hotel. “She has no role in the management or ownership of 12 on Hillel,” the statement said.

In 2022, City Press reported that Lerato was seen as the “face” of the hotel after rumours that her husband, Thami Ndlala, bought it for her. She denied this, saying she only owns Amour Restaurant and part of the property.
