- The 29-year-old suspect was arrested and will appear in the Kariega magistrate’s court on a charge of murder.
A 29-year-old man from Despatch, near Gqeberha, was stabbed to death after accidentally hitting a two-year-old boy with a stone during an argument.
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the incident happened early on Saturday morning in Albatros Street, Reservoir Hills.
She said police arrested a 29-year-old man for the murder of Shervago Hanse.
“It is believed the victim was fatally stabbed after he accidentally hit a two-year-old toddler with a stone following a heated argument,” said Janse van Rensburg.
At around 4am, the homeowner asked her children’s friends to leave after a night of drinking. As they were leaving, one of the guests started arguing with the homeowner’s daughter and threw a stone. It missed her and hit the two-year-old boy instead.
“The toddler’s uncle, on seeing that his nephew was injured, allegedly retaliated and stabbed Hanse, who later died in hospital,” said Janse van Rensburg.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and is expected to appear in the Kariega magistrate’s court on Monday on a charge of murder.
Police said investigations are continuing.
