  • A Constantia mansion worth R28.9-million was declared by Paul Mashatile but is registered to a company owned by his son-in-law.
  • Mashatile also declared a R37-million Waterfall mansion and owns a Kelvin home, while the Hawks investigate possible undeclared wealth.

Deputy President Paul Mashatile is facing fresh questions about multimillion-rand houses linked to his family.

At the centre is a R28.9-million Constantia mansion. Mashatile told the SABC he does not own it, saying: “I live there. That house is owned by my son-in-law.”

But the official parliamentary register shows he declared the property under “Ownership of land and property.” The house is registered to Duntaw Close, a company owned by his son-in-law, Nceba Nonkwelo.

It is not the only house being raised. Mashatile also declared a R37-million home in Waterfall, tied to Nonkwelo and his son, Thabiso. He owns a third house in Kelvin near Sandton outright, News24 reported.

Parliament said it will not release the full documents, saying they are confidential and can only be made public by court order.

The DA has laid criminal charges, and the Hawks are now investigating after reports that Nonkwelo, despite owing millions from a housing loan, paid cash for the Constantia mansion.

Both the Constantia and Waterfall homes are used by Mashatile when travelling between Johannesburg and Cape Town.
