76,000 smiles as South Africans send boxes of joy

  • The Santa Shoebox Project collected 76,565 pledges from donors to help children in need.
  • Each box contains eight essential items like soap, toys, and outfits to bring joy.

Imagine a child opening a box with their own name on it to find a new toy, sweets, and warm clothes.

This moment of joy is happening for thousands of children this December.

The Santa Shoebox Project has confirmed that 76,565 boxes have been pledged this year.

Strangers, families, and workers came together to pack these gifts. They chose names of children they do not know just to make sure they feel loved.

Each box is packed with care. It holds eight special things: a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, a washcloth, an outfit, school supplies, sweets, and a toy.

For many children, these basic items are not part of their daily lives. Getting them in a decorated box makes the gift even more special.

The project organisers say the support has been amazing.

“A million smiles start with one box. Each Santa Shoebox shared this season became a story of joy, laughter, and love,” the Santa Shoebox Project said.

The group says that even though times are tough, South Africans still showed up to help.

“Because of you, little hearts are happy, and festive magic is alive and well.”

Every person who pledged a box has helped bring the country closer together. It is a time for smiles and kindness.
