Zwane feeling the heat at Chiefs

Despite improving the Kaizer Chiefs squad with fresh new players the Amakhosi still fail to impress.

And Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane is starting to lose his cool as the club continues where they left off last season.

Zwane was given the task of rebuilding the club having been appointed as head coach during the off season. However, seven matches into the new campaign, Chiefs are in 14th place in the DStv Premiership standings with just eight points and it remains to be seen if Zwane is capable of improving this side.

Zwane, however, is blaming his players for not sticking to game plans.

During the 1-1 draw against Marumo Gallants, Zwane really lost his cool and pointed a finger at Ashley Du Preez, claiming the striker did not follow his orders.

He said after the introduction of Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana upfront in the match they pushed everyone forward to create width and depth.

“But I don’t think Ashley understood what we wanted him to do. We said when Caleb goes don’t follow him, just stay in the pockets. You are going to get those balls free there,” said Zwane.

He added that the former Stellenbosch forward did not follow the instructions as he kept carrying the ball.

“Sometimes if he didn’t carry the ball he just kicked it forward and that’s so unlike him,” Zwane said.

Supporters, however, are not buying his explanations and the fanbase is getting impatient. Some want the management to intervene; to get in a more experienced coach and demote Zwane back to his former post as assistant.

To add fuel to the fire, their rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are doing well. Chiefs are eight points behind table toppers Downs and six from second place Bucs. The season is still in its early days but two teams have already parted ways with their coaches.

Last week Gallants coach Romain Folz resigned while Daine Klate was sacked at Chippa United. Could it be that Zwane is next?

Only time will tell but one thing for sure, the pressure is on and Zwane is feeling it too.
