Umkhonto Wesizwe leader Jacob Zuma is milking the Phala Phala farm robbery cover-up to gain votes for his new party ahead of the 29 May elections.

Zuma told a group of MK party supporters outside the Johannesburg High Court that the judiciary was treating President Cyril Ramaphosa with kid gloves.

Ramaphosa lost over $580,000 (about R11-million) during a robbery at his Phala Phala farm in Limpopo in 2020 and Zuma claims the money was acquired through criminal activities.

In a mix of the truth and lies, Zuma told his supporters that judges were loyal to Ramaphosa and harsh to him.

He claimed Ramaphosa had stolen millions of rands while he, Zuma, had never even “stolen a needle” from taxpayers.

“When I was president I was always forced to come to court but the one that came after me does not have to come to court.

“Even when a large sum of money was found under his pillow, he doesn’t get forced to come to court,” said Zuma after Ramaphosa failed to attend the court appearance.

Zuma went to court to get permission to privately prosecute Ramaphosa allegedly for failing to act on his complaint that state prosecutor Billy Downer had shared his medical records with a journalist.

He had previously approached the court in December, but the matter was postponed again on Thursday morning to 6 August.

Msholozi told his followers that Ramaphosa was failing as the president and that things have gone from bad to worse since he left office.

“This leader of ours is a problem. Since he took over, we have had problems,” said Zuma.

“We had already fixed the electricity crisis, but when he took over, load shedding returned. We are in big trouble because we are faced with poverty and unemployment.”

He told his supporters that the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) was biased against him and the MK party.

“The IEC says nothing about a person who steals money and hides it inside his mattress but they are chasing someone who has never even stolen a needle. That person is called Jacob Zuma,” he said.

Zuma also claimed he is eligible to run for president again because he did not finish his second term in office.

“I was removed by the leadership before I finished my term and I did not make a noise. I resigned and left.”
