Media personality Zodwa Wabantu sent Twitter abuzz after revealing that she has undergone 11 abortions and one miscarriage.
The Durban-based exotic dancer made the revelation on her popular reality series, Zodwa Wabantu: uncensored.
The 36-year-old is well-known for being an open book when it comes to dishing out the details of her private life.
“From me to you, the number of abortions I have done in my entire life are about 11,” said Wabantu, in an episode which aired on Saturday night.
What prompted her to reveal this secret was an approach by a mysterious man who told her that she needed to buy clothes for children.
“I did not know what it meant, so I called a traditional healer, Mshunqisi. He told me that it meant that I’d either had a miscarriage or an abortion.”
She opened up on her past whilst shopping for clothes for the cleansing ceremonies of her unborn children.
“He said if a child passes away because of a miscarriage you need to acknowledge and cleanse that child. That child is also treated as a child that is living,” she said.
As she didn’t know the genders of the children, she bought an array of blue, pink and yellow clothes.
Her bombshell came as a shock to her fans, who were divided on social media over the news. While some judged her for her choices, others said she was courageous and appreciated her honesty.
“Zodwa is honest. Some have had more abortions than she has but are here acting surprised,” said one user.
Wabantu has a teenage son whom she claimed was fathered by Khanyi Mbau’s ex-sugar daddy Mandla Mthembu.
