Cars suspected of transporting Zimbabwean opposition members have reportedly been attacked at an illegal roadblock in Wedza and Seke district in Mashonaland East Province.

It is alleged that youth members of the ruling party, ZANU PF, arrived in the area in three trucks and blockaded the road in an attempt to block Citizen Coalition Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa from entering the district.

Chamisa was scheduled to have a meeting with local leaders on Wednesday.

The opposition leader took to twitter and accused ZANU PF youths of being behind the attacks. “They are armed with dangerous weapons, axes, spears,” Chamisa wrote on twitter.

In one video, a Mercedes Benz belonging to CCC member George Makwangwaidze was pelted with stones, breaking its lights and windows. Afterwards sand was poured inside the engine.

They allegedly stole the car battery and took the keys away from Makwangwaidze as they vowed to block anyone from CCC  from entering the district.

The homestead of a local CCC leader was attacked and property destroyed while two other CCC members, Allan Kunaka and Brighton Chipunga, were reportedly badly injured at the roadblock.

“Our security team has been to the police station to formally make a report and ask them to remove the illegal roadblock,” Chamisa said on Wednesday afternoon.

The police had not confirmed the reports or any case by Wednesday night.
