Another global honour for South African musicians Nomcebo Zikode and Zakes Bantwini.
It’s been announced that they are set to perform at the 65th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.
“Dive into music from around the world during Grammy Week. Expand your horizons with our panel… Enjoy a performance by Bantwini & Nomcebo Zikode,” tweeted the organisation.
The announcement of their performance comes after Zikode and Bantwini, with Wouter Kellerman, got nominated for this year’s prestigious awards.
The trio were nominated in the Best Global Music Performance category for their collaboration called “Bayethe”.
Zikode said the past few years have been incredible.
“It feels so surreal that we’re now nominated at the premier music awards show in the world and we are really in contention for a Grammy award,” said the multi-platinum-selling singer in a press statement.
Excited about her anticipated attendance and performance at the 65th awards ceremony, Zikode also said in a tweet on Monday: “Off to Los Angeles to attend the 65th Annual Grammy Awards as a nominee. Thank you for the invite.”
Bantwini, who couldn’t contain his excitement, also quoted the Grammy Museum tweet saying, “KwaMashu kid at the #Grammys.”
CEO of IMG Africa and the mastermind behind the collaboration, Sibo Mhlungu said: “We’re looking forward to representing South African music at the upcoming Grammy Awards.”
Recognising the duo and Kellerman, he said “Bayethe” is a truly global work.
“It speaks to the dynamism and undeniable talent of all three artists, and we’re really proud to be able to showcase our work on the world stage,” he said.
The glittering event takes place on 5 February.
