Ukhozi FM has axed its programmes manager, Zandile Tembe, after holding the post for over 15 years.
She started at Ukhozi FM as a content producer for the Vuka Breakfast Show working with popular DJ Linda “Mr Magic” Sibiya. A few years later she was hired as programmes manager, an influential position which saw her gain both friends and enemies among the DJs.
Part of her job was to hire and fire DJs after rigorously reviewing their performances.
In the years spent at the KZN SABC office, Tembe was often in the news for alleged fights with her superiors.
Until recently, it was said that she did not see eye to eye with Sbongi Ngcobo who was a Business Manager at the IsiZulu radio station.
There had been rumours that she was eyeing the post ever since Bongani Mpanza, who was Ukhozi FM station manager, resigned in the midst of a scandal. He was implicated in a shady business deal by an internal forensic investigation in 2019.
When contacted for comment, Tembe said: “Yes it’s true. They said they won’t renew my contract but you know that. Why not speak to them?”
SABC spokesperson Gugu Ntuli was sent a query but is yet to respond.
