- Zandie Khumalo-Gumede says Jub Jub has made several attempts to see his son Christian, but Kelly Khumalo has rejected his efforts.
- A social worker says Kelly could be breaking the law if she stops Jub Jub from seeing his child without a court order.
Singer Zandie Khumalo-Gumede has defended musician Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye, saying he has been trying to reconnect with his son, Christian, for years.
On Sunday, 2 November, Jub Jub posted on Instagram that his ex-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo has refused to let him see their son. He said he has sent gifts, reached out to the family and offered to perform traditional customs, but Kelly has turned down every attempt.
He said some of the gifts he sent to Christian while he was in prison were even sent back.
Their relationship began in the late 2000s but ended after Jub Jub was convicted in 2010 for a car crash that killed four schoolchildren. Since then, Kelly has raised their son alone.
Zandie told Sunday World that both she and her mother had tried to mediate between the two. She said Jub Jub was willing to pay damages and make peace with the family, but talks failed because of “a lack of cooperation”.
“I care about my nephew deeply. Molemo has genuinely been trying, but both he and Kelly have unresolved issues,” Zandie said.
She added that Christian wants to see his father but that she cannot allow it without Kelly’s approval.
Social worker Queen Chauke said Kelly could be breaking the law by keeping Jub Jub from his child, as both parents have equal rights.
Kelly has not responded to the claims.
