US – Rihanna often faces the question of when she will release a new album. The singer, who continues to work on new music, said that she has not retired, despite wearing a T-shirt with the words “I’m Retired”. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the artist explained that people misunderstood the shirt. “Music, for me, is a discovery. I’m rediscovering things. I’m ready to go back to the studio. Give me a second!” In 2023, she mentioned wanting to release it that same year and said she had recorded new songs.
Texas – Elon Musk announced that Tesla shareholders are supporting his $56-billion (about R1-trillion) compensation package and moving the company’s legal headquarters to Texas. An official vote result is expected on Thursday. Despite legal delays, following a Delaware judge voiding the deal earlier this year for being “unfair”, Tesla resubmitted the package for a shareholder vote.
Sudan – The International Criminal Court (ICC) is urgently looking into allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity in al-Fashir, Darfur. Clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have increased in the region. In a video statement, ICC prosecutor Karim Khan said he was worried about the reported horrors, including ethnically motivated attacks, widespread rape, and assaults on hospitals.
India – An innovative insurance policy has begun providing payouts to tens of thousands of women in India to assist them during periods of extreme heat. Last month, 50,000 women in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Gujarat received $5 payments (about R92) as temperatures soared above 40 degrees Celsius. This unique insurance, in collaboration with India’s Self-Employed Women’s Association and Climate Resilience for All, combines insurance payouts with direct cash assistance to support women affected by the scorching temperatures.
