Sudan – More than half of Sudan’s population – 25.6 million people – are going hungry because of the war between the Sudanese Army and the rebel Rapid Support Forces. The fighting has destroyed farms and caused food prices to skyrocket. About five million people are trapped in the capital, Khartoum, and surrounding areas. Free kitchens, called takias, have been helping to feed families, but many are running out of money and food. The UN says 97% of the people in Sudan are in danger of starving, and 2.5 million could die from hunger by the end of the year.
Los Angeles – Kim Kardashian turned heads at the 2024 Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles, wearing a vintage satin white corset and tiny shorts from Thierry Mugler’s 1998 collection. She also wore a white robe and 30 carats of diamonds from Tiffany & Co. Fans praised her outfit on social media, especially on X. Her sisters, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, were also at the event, with Kendall wearing a black velvet Schiaparelli gown.
California – Streaming giant Netflix is raising its subscription prices around the world because the boost from its crackdown on password sharing is slowing down. Between July and September, Netflix gained 5.1 million new subscribers, the smallest increase in over a year. The company has already raised prices in Japan, parts of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa; Italy and Spain are next.
North Korea – A video showing North Korean soldiers receiving uniforms and equipment at a training ground in Russia’s Far East seems to confirm reports that 1,500 North Korean troops are being trained to fight in Ukraine. The video, shared by Ukrainian officials, shows soldiers speaking Korean and completing forms written in Russian and Korean. Another video shows soldiers arriving at the Sergeevka Training Ground.
US – Donald Trump’s recent behaviour, which includes strange comments and hints at wanting more power, worries many people about what might happen if he wins the election again. Democrats, including Vice President Kamala Harris, are talking more about his mental state and erratic actions, similar to how Trump used to criticise Joe Biden. But despite these concerns, Trump still has strong support from voters who like his anti-government stance.
