World news bites: Jay-Z denies rape allegations with Diddy

Rorisang Modiba brings you daily global updates.

USA – Jay-Z has denied shocking claims that he and Sean “Diddy” Combs raped a 13-year-old girl at an MTV party in 2000. Jay-Z called the accusations “terrible” and “untrue,” accusing the alleged victim’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee, of trying to get money from him. He said he won’t pay “a single cent” and told the woman, called Jane Doe, to go to the police if her claims were true instead of suing him. Jane Doe says she was drugged and raped at a house party in New York on 7 September 2000. Combs hasn’t responded yet to the claims.

Russia – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has fled to Russia with his family, where they have been given safety. His escape has shocked people loyal to him, especially the Alawite community. After 24 years of ruling, his government suddenly collapsed, leaving people angry and confused. Protests have broken out in cities like Latakia and Tartous, where residents have destroyed statues of Assad’s father, Hafez al-Assad, and chanted against the family. So far, the protests have stayed peaceful, with no major violence between groups.

Kenya – Kung fu is giving hope to many young people in Kenya, where 67% of them don’t have jobs. People like Evans Munzaa say the sport helps them stay strong and make money. Trainers say more people are signing up, and the Kenya Kung Fu Wushu Federation has trained thousands. They believe kung fu teaches discipline, improves health, and helps people stay focused. They want the government to help support the sport.

Korea – South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol is under pressure to step down after trying to declare martial law. The plan was stopped when parliament cancelled it during a dramatic session. Yoon has apologised for “causing fear” and said the martial law plan was his last option. He still faces charges and protests from angry citizens.
