Israel – A US official claims Israel has launched an attack on Iran. However, the Israeli military hasn’t confirmed the attack and Iran hasn’t blamed anyone yet. An Iranian official said they shot down three drones, and there were no missile strikes. Reports in Iran said their nuclear sites are safe and showed videos of calm areas where explosions were rumoured to have happened. This comes after Iran’s attack in response to a suspected Israeli strike on its embassy in Syria.

China – Millions of people in China are living in urban areas where the land is sinking due to human activities. This is increasing the risk of flooding, especially with rising sea levels. Of the population of 270-million people, 29% of the population live in urban areas. A recent study found that nearly half of the urban areas are sinking. A major cause of this sinking, or subsidence, is the excessive drawing of groundwater. Cities have been drawing water from underground faster than it can be replaced.

Hong Kong – Apple has taken down WhatsApp and threads from its app store in China due to orders from the country’s internet watchdog. These apps, owned by Meta, were already blocked and not widely used in China. Factors such as rising nationalism, economic difficulties, and strong competition from local brands like Huawei, Xiaomi, and OPPO/OnePlus have lowered Apple’s momentum on that continent. China is the second-largest market for Apple after the United States.

Kenya – Kenya’s military chief, General Francis Ogolla, died in a helicopter crash in the western part of the country, President William Ruto announced. The accident claimed the lives of General Ogolla and nine other military members with two people surviving. President Ruto said investigators have been sent to the crash site in Elgeyo Marakwet County to determine the cause. General Ogolla was on a mission from Nairobi to visit troops and inspect school renovations in the North Rift region at the time of the crash.

Philadelphia – American President Joe Biden has received the support of more than a dozen members of the extended Kennedy family. This is a direct slap in the face for Robert F. Kennedy Jr who has mounted his own presidential challenge. The Kennedy family has mostly rejected RFK Jr.’s campaign as he looks to use his family name to get support.
