World news bites: Goats arrested for chasing people around the city

Rorisang Modiba brings you daily global updates.

Washington – Two goats ended up in jail after chasing people around a city in America. Police in Kent, Washington, had to catch the runaway animals who were scaring pedestrians. They took the troublemakers to an animal shelter while looking for their owner. “We are not sure where they came from, but the two of them got it into their heads that chasing people would be a good time,” police joked on social media. “Don’t goat us wrong, they are very cute. But no kidding, it’s not OK for people or goats to chase others.”

Egypt – A tourist boat sank near Sataya Reef on Monday, 25 November, after big waves hit it. Four people died and seven are missing, while 33 survived the disaster. The boat, Sea Story, carried 31 tourists and 13 crew on a diving trip when it hit rough weather with waves up to four metres high. Most survivors had minor injuries and are now at a hotel in Marsa Alam.

Uganda – Top opposition leader Kizza Besigye was reportedly grabbed during a book launch in Kenya and taken to a military jail in Kampala. His wife, Winnie Byanyima, who runs UNAIDS, says he was kidnapped. She wants to know why her husband, a civilian who often speaks out against President Yoweri Museveni, is in a military prison. Ugandan police deny having him. Kenya hasn’t said anything about the case, though they sent 36 members of Besigye’s political party back to Uganda in July on terrorism charges.

Lebanon – Israel and Hezbollah stopped fighting on Wednesday, 26 November, after 13 months of war. Some Lebanese people are going back to their homes in the south, but Israel says some areas aren’t safe yet. The ceasefire came after both sides attacked each other – Hezbollah sent drones into Israel, while Israel bombed Beirut. The fighting started when Israel invaded Lebanon two months ago after a year of rocket attacks from Hezbollah. The deal doesn’t affect Israel’s war in Gaza.
