World news bites: Bishop T.D. Jakes has emergency surgery

Rorisang Modiba brings you daily global updates.

USA – Famous pastor Bishop T.D. Jakes, 67, has called his recovery after emergency surgery a “miracle.” Jakes told his church he underwent surgery after a serious health scare on 24 November. Speaking from home during a sermon at The Potter’s House in Dallas, witnesses said he started shaking and went silent before being helped off the stage. Some believe he had a stroke, but Jakes has not confirmed this. He thanked God for saving him and said he would return to work slowly as advised by his doctors.

Ivory Coast – Former First Lady Simone Ehivet, ex-wife of Laurent Gbagbo, is running for president in Ivory Coast’s 2025 elections. Her party, the Movement of Capable Generations (MGC), nominated her, and she promised to focus on peace, food security, and growing industries. Ehivet, a teacher and union leader, helped start the Popular Ivorian Front (FPI) party in 1982. She joins other candidates, including FPI leader Pascal Affi N’Guessan.

USA – Designer Bryana “Bana” Bongolan is suing Sean “Diddy” Combs for $10 million. She says Combs groped her and hung her over a balcony during a 2016 visit to Cassie Ventura’s home. Bongolan also says she saw signs that Combs abused Ventura and claims she suffered “terror and abuse” while working with him.

Australia – A woman in Melbourne narrowly escaped danger after a tiger snake crawled up her leg while she was driving at 80km/h on a freeway. She stayed calm, got the snake off, pulled over, and jumped out of the car. Police checked that she wasn’t bitten, and a snake catcher removed the reptile. Experts say the snake may have entered the car due to recent hot weather forcing snakes out of their homes.
