Rorisang Modiba brings you daily global updates.

Angola – Outgoing US President Joe Biden has promised $600 million to help fix the Lobito Corridor railway during his visit to Angola. This is part of a $4 billion plan by the US to improve train lines in Angola, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The project aims to make trade easier, speed up transport and create jobs in the mineral-rich region. Backed by other countries, it is the biggest US train investment outside the country and could lead to more projects in Africa.

UK – Cryptocurrency Bitcoin has reached its highest value ever, hitting $103,280 (£81,160) early on Thursday morning. This increase came after Donald Trump chose Paul Atkins, a supporter of cryptocurrency, to lead the SEC. The price has risen by 7.9% in the last day and 45% since 5 November, the day of the US election. Trump said Atkins supports markets that help investors and new ideas.

Iran – Iran’s parliament has approved stricter rules on how people should dress. Women must now cover their necks, ankles and forearms, while men cannot show their chests, knees or shoulders. These dress code changes have caused protests before. The law still needs to be signed by President Masoud Pezeshkian, who opposes it and wants more discussion. He warned that strict rules could create more problems.

USA – US rapper Eminem’s mother, Debbie Mathers Nelson, has died. A spokesperson confirmed her death, but the cause is unknown. She had been battling lung cancer. Eminem often rapped about their difficult relationship in songs like “My Name Is” and “Cleanin’ Out My Closet.” Ms. Nelson once sued Eminem for what he said about her but later wrote a book in 2008 titled My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem, where she defended herself and told her side of the story.
