- Ntombizodwa Mhletywa, 29, was shot dead at her KwaDwesi home on Saturday evening after answering a knock at the gate.
- Police say no arrests have been made and the motive remains unknown.
A young woman was shot and killed at her home in KwaDwesi on Saturday evening while her boyfriend was inside the bathroom.
Ntombizodwa Mhletywa, 29, had just arrived home with her boyfriend when someone knocked at the security gate.
Police say the couple entered their home in Mbinza Street at around 6:40pm.
While the boyfriend went to the bathroom, Mhletywa went to answer the door.
According to police, the boyfriend told officers he heard three gunshots shortly after she opened the gate.
When he ran out to check, he found Mhletywa lying on the ground with gunshot wounds.
She was declared dead at the scene.
Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, spokesperson for the South African Police Service, confirmed that a murder case has been opened.
She said no arrests have been made so far.
“The motive and the suspect are unknown at this stage,” Janse Van Rensburg said.
Police are asking anyone who may have information about the shooting to come forward.
They have urged people to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or report information at their nearest police station.
Mhletywa’s family have been left searching for answers about who killed her and why.
