Woman held for Gqeberha shack murder

  • Nolwandle Hlahlatyi was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside her shack on 11 December in the Kwadwesi area of Gqeberha.
  • Police arrested a 23-year-old woman a week later for conspiracy to commit murder and murder after gathering intelligence.

A 23-year-old woman appeared in the New Brighton Magistrateโ€™s Court on Thursday after being arrested for the murder of a Gqeberha mother who was gunned down in her shack.

Nolwandle Hlahlatyi, 35, was found dead on the morning of 11 December, with multiple gunshot wounds.

According to police, the shooting happened just before 10pm on Wednesday 10 December. Nolwandle was in her shack behind the main house in Boesak Street, Kwadwesi. Her brother, who was inside the main house watching TV, told police he heard a gunshot outside.

The next morning, he found the shack door open. Inside, Nolwandle lay dead.

Police launched a murder investigation and later gathered intelligence linking a young woman to the killing.

On Thursday 18 December, officers from the Nelson Mandela Bay District Detective Intervention Task Team arrested the suspect. She has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and murder.

She appeared in court on Friday 19 December.

Police have not confirmed if more arrests are expected or what the motive may have been.

Nolwandleโ€™s family is devastated. She is said to have been a mother of two.
